In the late 70s The Specials were the coolest band on the planet. Well, actually this has not changed one bit. The remaining founding members Terry Hall (vocals), Horace Panter (bass) and Lynval Golding (guitar) still have their rude-boy-coolness trademark, which is basically a mixture of stylish charisma and being charming whilst not forgetting the „shuddup“ attitude of the British working class. Meanwhile their ska and reggae infused 2-tone sound refuses to age either. That’s why songs like „Ghost Town“, „Too Much Too Young“ , „Concrete Jungle“ or „Rat Race“ are not dated in the pre brexit times as they address so many issues that are just as relevant today. And there is of course this song that goes: „If you have a racist friend / Now is the time, now is the time for your friendship to end / Be it your sister / Be it your brother / Be it your cousin or your, uncle or your lover.“
Come spring 2019 we will all once more have the chance to see The Specials in Germany.
