If you listen to hits like "Blue Monday", "Crystal" or "Sooner Than You Think" and look at the fact that the formation of New Order is marked by one of the most tragic events in pop history, you are probably still a little clouded. How did Joy Division and their dark masterpieces from "Love Will Tear Us Apart" to "Atmosphere" create the music of New Order?
The newly re-released debut album "Movement", which is available as a collector's box since April 5, provides the answer. Because here the scars are still fresh and Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook, Stephen Morris and Gillian Gilbert only slowly feel their way out of the darkness. Song number two "Truth" is perhaps the best proof of this: Hook's bass playing is all Joy Division, the keyboards sound like sad violins, Sumner's vocals booming new-wavig-wailing - but this rhythm, there's something twitching, something wants to dance!
And even their first album without Hook and his formative bass "Complete Music" from 2016 had with "Restless", "Unlearn This Hatred" or the funky danceable "People On The High Line" some hits, which once again underline what distinguishes New Order from other pop rock bands.
This is exactly what they will prove on German stages again in October: in Munich and Berlin they will invite us on a ride through their impressive history.
