Marylou Mayniel is not only a wonderful singer, but also a great producer. The French musician, who now lives in London, released her futuristic yet intimate sounding debut EP "The Rite Of May" under the name Oklou, and in 2020 attracted attention with the singles "entertnmnt" and „Toyota“. The two songs couldn't be more different. “Entertnmnt” is a rather dark piece produced by Mura Masa., and in “Toyota” she lays her warm voice on a sound bed in collaboration with the artist Flavien Berger. She finally used her appearance in the video series “A Colors Show” in the summer to introduce “Fall” with only keyboard and voice - a key piece from her recent project “Galore”, which was released on September 24th.
Oklou has explained that “Galore” is not an album, but rather a mixtape, although it has everything a big debut album needs: an adventurous, but coherent sound with deep, poetic lyrics and outstanding vocal performances.
So there is a lot we can look forward to when Oklou will present this great album - pardon, mixtape - live at an exclusive, Berlin show in spring 2021.
