Jack Johnson

Meet The Moonlight Tour
Morgan Maassen
We are hoping for mild, summer evenings when Jack Johnson comes on tour in Germany in June 2023. Not only because Johnson, who is probably the most laid-back singer-songwriter of the past decade, won’t miss his home in Hawaii as much when the temperatures are warm, but also because a beautiful sunset goes perfectly with the locations Johnson has chosen.

Following up on sold out dates in the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Chile and Brazil, American singer-songwriter, surfer and environmentalist, Jack Johnson will be bringing his beautifully-crafted tunes and soothing, island-inspired vocals back to Germany for three shows in June 2023.

Johnson's latest album, Meet the Moonlight released earlier this year, on which Johnson scans the fractures of our society with a precise eye and tries to explore a balance between nature and progress. This was especially evident in the lead single "One Step Ahead". Johnson said, "We’re at a point where human nature hasn’t changed but the technology around us has changed dramatically, and it’s getting to this dangerous place where the most extreme and sensationalized opinions have the potential to be heard by so many people”. The chorus is about "trying to breathe through the noise and get to a calmer place”. While it may not have been his intention, Johnson also used it to describe the magical power of his music - and his concerts. The album was produced by Blake Mills (Alabama Shakes, Perfume Genius, Jim James) and recorded both in Los Angeles (at Sound City and EastWest) and The Mango Tree (Johnson’s studio in Hawai'i). The creation process marks a major artistic milestone from past work, taking shape from a one-on-one collaboration with Mills (whose contributions included everything from fretless guitar to Moog synth to steel drums) and unveiled an intimate and highly experimental process that involved embedding Johnson's elegantly stripped-back arrangements with enchanting sonic details.

Jack Johnson grew up surfing and playing guitar on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawai'i. Johnson's debut album 'Brushfire Fairytales' was released in 2001. A second solo album, ‘On and On’, was released in 2003. Two years later, his third solo release, ‘In Between Dreams’, reached #1 and sold over six million copies worldwide. It included the huge hits “Better Together” and “Good People” and the single "Sitting, Waiting, Wishing," which gained Johnson a Grammy Award nomination for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. Johnson also went on to provide the soundtrack to the film adaptation of Curious George which opened his music up to an even broader demographic. 2008’s 'Sleep Through The Static' debuted at #1 on the US album chart. Each subsequent album has featured a #1 song on the Adult Album Alternative Chart, with Johnson holding the record for total #1’s. Since 2001, Johnson has released eight studio albums and two live albums that have sold over 25 million copies worldwide and his songs have been streamed over 6 billion times.

Johnson is also known for using his notoriety to promote environmental activism. His Brushfire Records label and touring crew have been leaders in the greening of the music industry and his All At Once social action network inspires fans to get involved in their local and global community. Jack, with his wife Kim, founded the Kokua Hawai'i Foundation to support environmental education in Hawai'i's schools and communities, as well as the Johnson Ohana Foundation to support environmental, art and music education worldwide. Proceeds from these albums and tour profits, along with Johnson’s personal charitable activities, have resulted in over $37 million donated to charity since 2001. The Meet The Moonlight World Tour works closely with venues to promote sustainability including energy conservation, sourcing of local food and plastic free initiatives, including reusable models and water refill stations. In addition to taking strides to reduce the carbon footprint of the tour, 1 Euro of your ticket purchase will support local climate solutions.
