Music is only one of the outlets Sevdaliza, a Netherlands-based artist with Iranian roots, uses to express herself. So far, the 27-year-old has self-produced a wide array of mind boggling music videos, created extravagant visuals for her live shows and relied upon combining haunting melodies, penetrative bass lines and powerful lyrics to create her own distinctive sound. Her newest song “Bebin” is an example of her musical craftsmanship: sung and written in Farsi, it can be understood as a clear, political statement to Donald Trumps “Muslim Ban”.
The way Sevdaliza manages to stretch the boundaries of musicianship by effortlessly venturing into different artistic fields has already built her quite the reputation and made the singer an insider tip in the music scene. Both music bloggers and young art critics were bewitched by her futuristic music video for “That Other Girl”, and her god-like stride through the clip for the track “Human” got her featured in magazines like Vogue. But all that being said, these videos are still only the cherry on top of her truly addictive sound. In May, Sevdaliza will finally be heading in our direction to play an exclusive show at the Prince Charles.
