What Bloc Party's new album “Alpha Games” will sound like, which will be released at the end of April, we don’t know yet. But if you listen to the previous single “Traps”, then it seems clear: the Brits are back in the mood for wild, noisy guitar rock like in their early stages. This track is exactly the hyper-dynamic post-punk outbreak that hardcore fans from the very beginning had been hoping for when the new record was announced. Lead singer Kele Okereke emphasizes: “From the moment we wrote ‘Traps’, we knew it had to be the first thing people heard from this album; playing it in soundchecks on our last tour before it was finished and hearing how it sounded in those big rooms and outdoors.”
Comparisons to hits on their debut such as “Banquet” or “Helicopter”, to which everyone in the clubs in the mid-nineties was dancing to, are welcome. Nevertheless, the sound of "Traps" is definitely more modern and based on over 15 years of experience on the big stages of the world.
Stylistically, Bloc Party evolved a lot over time. But the dynamics of the charismatic lead singer Okereke onstage have always remained the same, together with the well-known live sound of the band. And that's exactly what we're looking forward to when Bloc Party will play two concerts in Germany in May 2022.
