You already knew it back then, when the young Belgian Selah Sue was touring through Germany for the first time. She brought along this fantastic hit called ‘Raggamuffin’, which was more pop or songwriter-folk than reggae, but still resonate that laid-back vibe which you hear more commonly in Jamaica.
With only 20 years she even wowed the immortal Prince with her voice, her songwriting and her own sound. So, Prince booked her as support for one of his concerts. But you could tell even that Selah Sue was just getting warmed up on her career - by no means she was a one-hit-wonder. And that’s exactly how it happened: after good ten years, three albums, songs with J. Cole, Childish Gambino among others, a rarity collection and hits like ‘You’, ‘Crazy Vibes’ and ‘Alone’, she released her third studio album called ‘Persona’. A title that couldn’t be more appropriate, as Selah Sue shows herself a a versatile personality who can slide from pop to folk to R’n’B and back – sometimes even in one song. The stylistic openness is a nice contrast to her lyrics, which explore the depths of her own personality very precisely and are shaped by her fight against depression. Her always global, world-embracing pop concept still works best when you have this amazing musician live on stage in front of you.

And this is exactly what is finally possible again this autumn.
